at home for a snow day. for the third time this year. which is totally unheard of in my entire life.
i've done some recent soul-searching and determined that i LOVE snow days ... especially when i hear that we're probably getting a waiver from the state so that the extra days don't have to be made up at the end of the school year.
if that's the case, bring on the blizzard!
anyhow - i used today to take back control of this house. and the laundry. and make chili for supper. and not shower. (i did brush my teeth though - even i have standards, y'all.) and pore over amortization schedules thinking about what it's going to take to get us where we need to be to start thinking about the house we want to build in a few years. and catch up on some y&r. (3 weeks behind isn't the worst it's ever been, but it's definitely enough to bug me.)
there's nothing fantastically spectacular to report this evening, but lest i fall back into the blogging black hole i was in for nearly 17 months, i needed to post something at least remotely readable.
i'm currently snuggled in my favorite chair under the guise of writing lesson plans and prepping a fractions game for the children tomorrow since it appears we will be at school (i did just get an e-mail from the principal that we can wear jeans & sweatshirts ... sweeeet!) ... and yet, here i am.
here are a few of the thought bubbles floating around my head at the moment:
1. i'm perpetually perplexed by the playroom.
love the paint, love the curtains, love the new shelves & tv. mint green minky dot chair is being reupholstered in a distressed leather. considering maybe an iron daybed or fold-out loveseat to go in there so it will have some potential as sleeping arrangements for anybody who needs to stay over.
i'm LOST as to what to put on the walls. and does it need some kind of nightstand/side table in the corner where the UGLY dora couch/princess chair sits with a lamp and a book basket? and does that black lamp work? does it need something bigger/more dramatic? does it need two lamps instead of the sketch book on the other side of the tv? do i need pills?
help.
(p.s. - i know the kitchen is ugly. but she is obsessed. definitely not a battle i'm picking.)
2. i am a glutton for punishment.
for further explanation, please see hubby's valentine, otherwise entered as exhibit a:

clearly, i don't have sense enough to come in out of the rain.
3. power struggles are my life.
the wild woman has yet to master the concept of picking her battles. (read: she chooses every. single. one.)
here we are in the line to check out at best buy last night. we had just left target - where she scored a new ariel princess barbie (a reward for being sweet to dr. green at her checkup and a reparation for the horrific shot she had to endure after i promised her there would be none.), a new set of princess stickers and silverlicious - the newest installment in the pinkalicious series - and yet she was sitting down, arms and legs crossed, refusing to budge because i wouldn't buy her a pack of gum.
i suspect i will need either pharmaceutical intervention or a padded room (or both.) to survive the teenage years. or maybe just to survive kindergarten knowing this little munchkin.the extent of her communication with me for the rest of the evening was as follows: yep, nope, yep, yep, who cares.
something tells me she'll make a fantastic wife someday.
4. productivity will be way down for the next several days.

i assume no explanation is necessary for this one, kids.
5. if you have to wonder what makes this photo exciting, we just can't be friends anymore.

and there ya have it.
happy snow day to all and to all a good night!
love & i would like to burn hubby's copy of black ops,

I have to say, I am LOVING the regular posting from you lady! Makes my heart happy to see another post in my reader. (Blogger reader, still haven't figured out this Google reader people speak of.)
ReplyDeleteSo glad you got another snow day! And super impressed you didn't sit in your pjs all day watching tv like someone (ahem, me) would have done. Enjoy those sharpies!
Oh goodness, my daughter would go wild for those sharpies. She got a big pkg. like that for Christmas. She LOVES Sharpies!!!
ReplyDeleteThose sharpies and book, awesome!!!!!!! I want!!!!! And YEAH for snow days!!
ReplyDeletewhen i started reading #5 i thought oh no, what will it be - maybe we won't be friends anymore -and then i saw it was sharpies - and i totally got it. i LOVE sharpies. and in all those colors. dreamy.
ReplyDeletesecond - sorry about wild woman having mono you said?!?!?!?! yuck. how is she today?
and third - what about in the playroom framing some of her art work - you could either do a bunch of different size ones and make like an "art wall" or line up 3 on top 3 on bottom with them - OR get some canvas and pick what colors you want and let sophie just paint all over the canvas. i framed the kids art in cute frames on the wall in our kitchen and i LOVE it and it has been easy to occasionally switch out the art. i love it so much i think i'm going to frame more in playroom! :) ok that is all i got today!!!
I'm sure it wasn't funny to you, but wild woman cracks me up pouting @ the store!!! Hilarious! I also think it's funny that we enable our hubbies to do the things that most annoy us. Why do we do that?! Hope the appt goes well. Please text or tweet what's up with S. Worried about her. Love y'all!!
ReplyDeleteI'm de-lurking for this. So, hey!
ReplyDeleteI would (maybe) mount the tv on the wall to fill up that space a little more. I know it's a lot of work, so maybe not. But on the opposite wall, I think I would do 3 semi-big black and white pics of Sophie and y'all.
Hi! I found you on twitter and am now following your blog! It's so cute!
ReplyDeleteI think some silhouettes would be adorable in your play room! When I worked in design, we put up some fun and funky ones of the families children and puppy. I also have seen some really cute ones on etsy that you can buy or have made too! Either way, that would be adorable hanging up in there!
you are hilarious! the sophie housewife comment... AWESOME!
